Snapchat: Why Your Small Business Better Be Marketing With It

If you don’t already use Snapchat while marketing your business, you should. While it began as a simple social media platform to share quick pictures and videos with friends and family, Snapchat has become one of the best ways to advertise to the growing demographic of millennials and young adults.

According to Snapchat’s website, 41% of all 18-34 year-old’s in the United States use Snapchat on a daily basis. On top of that Snapchat has reported that over 100 million people use the app every day and watch over 10 billion videos on the social media platform.

So, how can you use Snapchat to successfully advertise your business? Thankfully, Snapchat has created a few different ways for companies to reach the masses.

Snapchat Stories:

Snapchat Stories are an important feature within the app. Stories consist of all the videos and photos a user has uploaded during the last 24-hour period and any of their friends and followers can view them. Through stories, you can spread your message on Snapchat from your own account.

You could take behind the scenes footage of your business operations and post it on your Snapchat story to give your friends and followers an idea of what it’s like to work at your company or how much time and effort goes into creating your product or service. You could also provide access to live events like product launches or demos. Putting contests or promotions up on your story will garner more attention for your business on Snapchat, as will collaborating with other companies’ profiles.

Snap Ads:

The more friends you have and the more accounts you follow, the more stories you will be able to view on your Snapchat timeline. Occasionally, an advertisement will appear in between stories, these are known as Snap Ads.

With a Snap Ad, a business can display a video advertisement up to 10 seconds long within the timeline feeds of users who don’t actually follow them. If the advertisement manages to spark the user’s interest, the user can then swipe up on the ad, which reveals more content such as articles, longer videos, or mobile websites.

Snapchat has shown that their Snap Ads are interacted with 5 times more than the average click-through advertisements on comparable platforms.

Sponsored Geofilters:

Snapchat is constantly adding different features that users can add to their snaps. One of these features that a business can take advantage of are called Sponsored Geofilters.

Sponsored Geofilters allow users to add a filter and overlay image to their pictures to show where they are, what event they are attending, or what business establishment they are visiting. Sponsored Geofilters can be a great way to get the word out on an event for your business. In the United States a nationally-sponsored Geofilter will typically reach between 40%-60% of everyday Snapchat users.

Sponsored Lenses:

Have you ever seen any of those crazy pictures or videos on Snapchat where somebody has a taco for a head, or is puking a rainbow, or has exchanged faces with someone else? Well, many of those lenses are sponsored by corporations and businesses. To help advertise events or products companies use Snapchat to make creative lenses that can grasp consumers’ attention.

Gatorade ran one of the most successful sponsored lens campaigns during the Superbowl. The lens allowed Snapchat users to experience the famous “Gatorade dunk” virtually. The lens was viewed over 165 million times on Snapchat. Of those 165 million views, users spent an average of 30 seconds playing with the filter and the intent to buy Gatorade products saw a substantial increase.

Snapchat is all about creatively showing the fun, quirky side of your business in a quick snapshot. It allows you to let consumers know what your business is all about and give them helpful information about products. Take a look at the many available features that Snapchat makes available to businesses, and make sure your business stays connected to the 100 million daily active Snapchat users.
